<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Back during the summer, my darling husband took me on a road-trip up to visit <a class="g-profile" href="https://plus.google.com/109163816824247870516" target="_blank">+Keepsake Quilting</a>. It is a day trip from here and I usually get to go at least once or twice a year. I especially love the bargain outlet and usually manage to find some great deals.<br />
This year among my treasures was a package of remnant odd cut strips- all in blues, tans, and creams. They were not uniform in size, but pretty close, so I decided that some table toppers would be a great use for them. I created two, a rectangle and a square. Not in any pattern really just making it up as I went along. I added borders from my stash and ordered a nice brown print from <a class="g-profile" href="https://plus.google.com/103099019484424951885" target="_blank">+Missouri Star Quilt Company</a> to use on the back. <br />

Quilted them both on my frame with my Janome 1600 and my favorite King Tut thread (Sands of Time - variegated creams) from <a class="g-profile" href="https://plus.google.com/112341931847333868869" target="_blank">+Superior Threads</a>.<br />

Most often there is at least one cat asleep on top of these and sometimes a rather large pile of books from the kids as well. I have to get my blog worthy photos quick around here.<br />

Blessings on your sewing journey~<br />

It continues to be proven how very blessed I am as Steve's wife. He designed and built a fabulous addition to my sewing space over the last few days.<br />
It went from this:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ULcRYHgQX9M/VEANmrOGbMI/AAAAAAAAB1k/TR-91ZXI2u0/s1600/DSCN4937.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ULcRYHgQX9M/VEANmrOGbMI/AAAAAAAAB1k/TR-91ZXI2u0/s1600/DSCN4937.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
To this:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-P4D4ZIPyB6U/VEANtpyeX_I/AAAAAAAAB1s/u78Ke7HlakI/s1600/DSCN4938.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-P4D4ZIPyB6U/VEANtpyeX_I/AAAAAAAAB1s/u78Ke7HlakI/s1600/DSCN4938.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Which then allowed me to make it like this:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-JPDj0cyxfuk/VEAN36SEkdI/AAAAAAAAB10/HXDCh8fy0_E/s1600/DSCN4940.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-JPDj0cyxfuk/VEAN36SEkdI/AAAAAAAAB10/HXDCh8fy0_E/s1600/DSCN4940.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Which means that what once looked like this:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-CzXDCl4y__w/VEAOWDjqmLI/AAAAAAAAB2I/XmdTiBk8g1c/s1600/DSCN3746.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-CzXDCl4y__w/VEAOWDjqmLI/AAAAAAAAB2I/XmdTiBk8g1c/s1600/DSCN3746.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-iyXQKtgr2ws/VEAOV5i5orI/AAAAAAAAB2E/dbQCKmyPt3o/s1600/DSCN3745.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-iyXQKtgr2ws/VEAOV5i5orI/AAAAAAAAB2E/dbQCKmyPt3o/s1600/DSCN3745.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Now looks like this:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-4RIFJsnWlyI/VEAN_PGzZCI/AAAAAAAAB18/52f_AemgFq8/s1600/DSCN4942.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-4RIFJsnWlyI/VEAN_PGzZCI/AAAAAAAAB18/52f_AemgFq8/s1600/DSCN4942.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Almost every bit of fabric I have is now organized on this massive shelf wall along with space underneath for notions (zippers, trims, etc), shelves for current projects in process, and even a floor cubby for one or more cats to nap in while they keep me company. All the shelves are adjustable too! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-9jJygD5td7A/VEAOmjPwAsI/AAAAAAAAB2U/La4_e6yaGBM/s1600/DSCN4941.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-9jJygD5td7A/VEAOmjPwAsI/AAAAAAAAB2U/La4_e6yaGBM/s1600/DSCN4941.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
My husband loves me so!<br />

I've been seeing lots of clever quilty mug rugs or snack mats on Pinterest and thought it would be a perfect little gift. Especially as my dear friend Lisa has a birthday this coming weekend.</div>

<br />
<a href="http://jacquelynnesteves.com/sew-sweet-simplicity-free-block-of-the-month/"><img src="http://jacquelynnesteves.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/SewSweetSimplicityBlockOfTheMonthSqButton300pix1.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
I will post updates as I work on this new project!<br />
<br />
Happy Sewing!<br />

So I opted to do something to hang in the kitchen and really wanted to make it country-homey looking.<br />
Out of my head I decided to combine a few different elements to work on some skills at the same time. I dug around the web and found some things I liked and created a rough 9-block plan in my mind. From <a href="http://forestquilting.com/paperpiecing_free_pg3.html" target="_blank">Forest Quilting</a> I used a paper piecing pattern for my 4 corner blocks. <br />
Paper piecing can be tedious and fussy, but this worked up pretty easily and I was very pleased with the results.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-g0dYaF2BW90/VCwbOe16Y3I/AAAAAAAABxY/hXbkJFtHaiI/s1600/IMG_20140912_111229870.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-g0dYaF2BW90/VCwbOe16Y3I/AAAAAAAABxY/hXbkJFtHaiI/s1600/IMG_20140912_111229870.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Then I decided to make an applique block for the center and wanted it to be simple but fitting to our home, so again I turned to the web to find a simple line drawing to use for a template. <br />
I used the freezer paper method to hold things together while I appliqued the apple, leaf & stem and then removed the paper. Nothing fancy, but since I don't do much applique, I was pleased with my efforts.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-xHra89apBPw/VCwb5a32yKI/AAAAAAAABxg/mVi9Aw2Nn7c/s1600/IMG_20140914_134904951.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-xHra89apBPw/VCwb5a32yKI/AAAAAAAABxg/mVi9Aw2Nn7c/s1600/IMG_20140914_134904951.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
For my last 4 blocks I wanted to go with a sampler look of traditional pieced blocks and found a few ideas at <a href="http://www.quilterscache.com/" target="_blank">Quilter's Cache</a> as well as just some standards of the quilty world.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
These are what I came up with:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-HkAR4Z6qSHE/VCwdKKG4cEI/AAAAAAAABxw/0HXi_qm_uKo/s1600/IMG_20140914_134816818_HDR.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-HkAR4Z6qSHE/VCwdKKG4cEI/AAAAAAAABxw/0HXi_qm_uKo/s1600/IMG_20140914_134816818_HDR.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-uMZv7XJcVYc/VCwdKJqSLCI/AAAAAAAABx0/yJeW6SkaeTg/s1600/IMG_20140914_134832089.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-uMZv7XJcVYc/VCwdKJqSLCI/AAAAAAAABx0/yJeW6SkaeTg/s1600/IMG_20140914_134832089.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-weCW0LiD5ZY/VCwdJgu9ZUI/AAAAAAAABxo/_gucFSwXnvc/s1600/IMG_20140914_134853100.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-weCW0LiD5ZY/VCwdJgu9ZUI/AAAAAAAABxo/_gucFSwXnvc/s1600/IMG_20140914_134853100.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-lMb0Nuk18Rs/VCwdMIXDShI/AAAAAAAABx8/UrNckkERAtk/s1600/IMG_20140914_142844188_HDR.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-lMb0Nuk18Rs/VCwdMIXDShI/AAAAAAAABx8/UrNckkERAtk/s1600/IMG_20140914_142844188_HDR.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Now for the fun part! Jess helped me plan the layout and I sashed everything together with a green allover print.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-QLnVtAVJj7M/VCwdeXgbE4I/AAAAAAAAByI/zHS4Ai37GC4/s1600/IMG_20140914_144800971_HDR.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-QLnVtAVJj7M/VCwdeXgbE4I/AAAAAAAAByI/zHS4Ai37GC4/s1600/IMG_20140914_144800971_HDR.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-tlkn5s5_oRU/VCwdi0NyxyI/AAAAAAAAByQ/c8xvxi6QMTM/s1600/IMG_20140914_162037850.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-tlkn5s5_oRU/VCwdi0NyxyI/AAAAAAAAByQ/c8xvxi6QMTM/s1600/IMG_20140914_162037850.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Trying to decide how to quilt it was a challenge as I didn't have much in the way of small scale pantographs to use but I did find one free leaf vine pattern that was just slightly larger than my sashing width. I like the way it came out sort of overlapping into the edges of the blocks.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
Steve hung it in the kitchen for me and I snapped this quick photo with my phone (which is why the lighting and angle is a bit wonky).<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

For her middle daughter's 16th birthday, my daughter Jess helped me choose things to create a very special quilt. Jess & Julie have been friends since the 1st grade (I think). So I was very thankful for all the insight and suggestions she offered to make sure the quilt would be something her friend would love.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-OiLeGTvDTkE/VBY-vu240BI/AAAAAAAABvQ/31PGT2BpuVw/s1600/Label.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-OiLeGTvDTkE/VBY-vu240BI/AAAAAAAABvQ/31PGT2BpuVw/s1600/Label.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
As Julie is a music lover and plays more than just a few instruments as well as writes songs and performs in church, it made sense to use that as a theme. Jessica helped me choose a pattern (Metroplex by designer <a class="g-profile" href="https://plus.google.com/101948716452730431923" target="_blank">+Tony Jacobson</a> from the (<a href="http://www.fonsandporter.com/issues/Easy_Quilts_Summer_2014" target="_blank"> </a><a class="g-profile" href="https://plus.google.com/115275967499894145318" target="_blank">+Fons & Porter</a> Easy Quilts Summer 2014)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
Then she helped me hunt around the internet to find the right fabrics to fit our theme. We found a large number of them from <a href="http://fabricshack.com/">FabricShack.com</a> and I was very pleased with the quality and prompt shipping. We chose materials from the "Let There be Music" collection by <span style="background-color: white;"><span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;">Whistler Studios for Windham, "Music to my Ears" collection from Blank Textiles, and "Maestro" collection by<b> </b></span></span><span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="background-color: white;">Barb Tourtillotte For Clothworks, as well as a white on white print from one of the local quilt shops in our area. All 100% cotton quilting fabrics - machine pieced. The backing is Windham Essentials tonal scroll-work design wide back flannel so that it would be a snuggly and warm quilt for our NH winters.</span></span><br />

I machine quilted it using a variegated thread - Riverbank - from Superior's King Tut line. The pattern is a pantograph design called Celtic Braid by Patricia Rutter from <a href="http://urbanelementz.com/">UrbanElementz.com</a>. The quilt finished to 64" x 84", and the binding is double fold with the flannel and hand stitched to finish. I created the quilt label and named the quilt "Make a Joyful Noise" including the reference to <a href="https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=psalm+100&version=NIV" target="_blank">Psalm 100</a> as it is most appropriate.<br />

This was a fun project and given that I spend a fair amount of time praying over my work when it's for someone specific, I know that Julie is covered literally and prayerfully with this blanket.<br />

This little one would touch my life in a special way. Actually all of her daughters are dear to me and I love them all. But her pregnancy and delivery of this youngest child was special as I had the opportunity to witness faith in action as her family faced the very real possibility that their precious baby girl might not come home with them but instead go home to Jesus just after she arrived.<br />
I also witnessed prayer answered in miraculous ways as her life was spared and she was gifted to a family and faith community that loves her and where she brings great joy to many. <br />
Our families share lots of time and laughter together and we are blessed to have our lives intertwined in faith and friendship. As we have now moved to live in the same town, I get to see this little girl more and as her 9th birthday approached, I wanted to do something special for her. <br />
Finally an idea sparked and I set to work. These are the things I made for her birthday.<br />

Not really too long on this one as it looked like it would be a quick little project. <br /><br />I bought the pattern here: <a href="http://www.sewthankful.com/I-Zip_Wallets_Sewing_Pattern_Download_by_Sew_TracyLee_Designs.html" target="_blank">Sew Thankful</a> - I've also purchased quilting thread from them in the past and am happy to recommend them!<br />
<br />
I decided late one evening to begin this little project for myself and hunted up some left-over fabrics to use as well as a random zipper from the stash I keep on hand. The pattern called for using a 9" zipper (cut down) but since the size I made (middle one) didn't need one that long, I used a 7" one I had hanging around.<br />
<br />
The fabric is all 100% cotton quilting fabric and I used the fusible fleece and interfacing I had on hand (no idea what brands). It came together fairly quickly and after one small alteration of direction on my outside pocket (because I accidentally reversed the dimensions on the pieced panel) and the alteration on the strap (I didn't have a swivel clasp), it only took a few hours to complete and I'm pleased with the result.<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-i1CoGiV9C-o/U6nAJtYOepI/AAAAAAAABhU/ugq6APM12lk/s1600/IMG_20140514_193733952.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-i1CoGiV9C-o/U6nAJtYOepI/AAAAAAAABhU/ugq6APM12lk/s1600/IMG_20140514_193733952.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And began building a baby quilt for a baby girl that is scheduled to arrive late summer I believe. The ladies group at the new church we are attending hosted a shower for the new mom and since quilts are what I know... that is what I thought I'd give as a gift, well-laced with lots of prayer as that is what God has gifted me to do. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-375pzQ0Zdk0/U6nA07p46vI/AAAAAAAABhc/nbMHACLHf9M/s1600/IMG_20140514_193810013.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-375pzQ0Zdk0/U6nA07p46vI/AAAAAAAABhc/nbMHACLHf9M/s1600/IMG_20140514_193810013.jpg" height="320" width="180" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I built a center and added some borders and corner posts</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-gEO6LQa8Itc/U6nA2Ks7GcI/AAAAAAAABhw/6eiaUNg2D4g/s1600/IMG_20140514_193818015.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-gEO6LQa8Itc/U6nA2Ks7GcI/AAAAAAAABhw/6eiaUNg2D4g/s1600/IMG_20140514_193818015.jpg" height="320" width="180" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Then added a few more borders and corner posts </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-R5dT2ZLNsuE/U6nA195BCyI/AAAAAAAABhs/OIcwTWdUiD4/s1600/IMG_20140514_203619485.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-R5dT2ZLNsuE/U6nA195BCyI/AAAAAAAABhs/OIcwTWdUiD4/s1600/IMG_20140514_203619485.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And a final set of borders with 9 patch blocks as corner posts</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-T6COGG4WpMQ/U6nA320UGBI/AAAAAAAABh4/VxNtrGaLVpM/s1600/IMG_20140516_095830240.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-T6COGG4WpMQ/U6nA320UGBI/AAAAAAAABh4/VxNtrGaLVpM/s1600/IMG_20140516_095830240.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>

Quilted with an continuous line design that I think is called 'flower-power' in a variegated King Tut thread color: Liberty. I was very pleased with the over-all effect and the new mom seemed pleased with the gift.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The quilt finished at approximately 46" square, cotton top and flannel back. Machine pieced and quilted by me using both my Janome machines and my New Joy quilt frame.</div>

*Several of the photos were taken with my cell phone and the lighting/quality wasn't as good as the ones taken with a regular camera and natural lighting.<br />

It gave me the opportunity to make love & prayer tangible through thread and fabric and a bit of time.<br />
It also taught me that a 'yes' to God is never wasted and even when we think it small, He can transform it into so much more.<br />
So I said another small 'yes' and made this quilt - with more prayer than probably any other one I've made - perhaps because of the size it allowed more time to pray. There was the piecing of the top, the pressing, the quilting at the frame and approximately 270 inches around by hand for the binding - many hours of prayer poured out at the Throne of Grace on behalf of people I don't know well but that God has put on my heart in a special way. Time <i>very</i> well spent and fervently offered as service to the One who can touch hearts, minds, bodies & souls in ways we cannot know or imagine.<br />

<br />Other than the <a href="http://debsews.blogspot.com/2013/08/two-for-two.html" target="_blank">2 quilts</a> I'd done for the twins born last year, I hadn't had opportunity to get many of the baby quilts finished. A dear woman I serve with monthly is about to become a great-grandmother and that event (probably happening this week!) was a catalyst to not only quickly create a very special quilt for the soon-to-be-born great-grandson, but also to finish up some of the other projects I've had hanging around.<br />
I do have one more large special project that isn't quite finished yet and that may get it's own post... or not... it's emotionally special for me and I may just keep that private. <br />
<br />
First is the newest quilt - for Elijah Robert - who will (Lord willing) arrive safely later this week.<br />

<br />
The quilt is an enlarged version of a block I had seen a long while back and I transformed it into a full size quilt pattern - sort of an intertwining ribbon design. It is made with 100% cotton quilting fabrics for the top in animal/Africa/safari prints that I just love. The back is an all-over animal print flannel that should be snuggly for a small boy. It is quilted edge-to-edge on my New Joy Frame with the Janome 1600P, using KingTut "Pharoah's Treasure" variegated thread in shades of green/gold/burgundy in an all-over leaf pattern. The top is machine pieced and the finish binding is done by hand.<br />
<br />
Next are 4 quilts that haven't been made for anyone specific as far as I know, but have been prayed over for whatever precious child God will allow them to be given to in the future.<br />
First up are two 'girlie' quilts. Both were made when the quilt ministry was in the capable hands of others and I just had opportunity to work on and finish them.<br />

The colors in these photos are very off - the closest one is the last one. This is a full flannel quilt - both front and back. Simple 4 patch blocks are alternated with solid squares and machine pieced and quilted in a broad line grid. The colors are soft 'baby' greens, yellow and big eyed owls. So cute!</div>

This was such a fun quilt to make - I adapted a pattern I'd seen in a magazine and built the colors off the backing fabric. When you are working with mostly donated materials, you sometimes have to wing it. We had this large piece of John Deere themed fabric and it was great for a back. I dug through the stash to find fabrics that would coordinate and put this together. It is in an all-over 'raindrop' pattern (again on my New Joy/Janome set up) using KingTut "Sands of Time" variegated cream/beige thread. All cotton fabrics, machine pieced and the binding is scrappy and hand-finished.<br />
<br />
Special thanks to my very helpful daughter for helping me with all the photos out in the chilly sun-porch.<br />
<br />
May God richly bless each little one who will be receiving these gifts of prayer.<br />

Blessings,<br />

A chenille dishtowel! So clever and handy and useful - just my idea of a perfect little project to use up odd pieces of leftover fabric (or that random piece of fabric that you really don't know <i>what you were thinking</i> when you acquired it).<br />
When I got home I googled for a 'how-to' and what do you think? The first link I found was to her <a href="http://oliveleafjournal.com/2014/02/03/scrap-busting-chenille-dish-towel/" target="_blank">sister's blog</a> with the tutorial right there! So marvelous! She has lots of clever and nifty things on her blog - you should absolutely check it out! <a href="http://oliveleafjournal.com/" target="_blank">Olive Leaf Journal</a><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-FmwbA7E1h0c/UzQYultgDsI/AAAAAAAABW0/U4n5FAYF6nE/s1600/DSCN4521.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-FmwbA7E1h0c/UzQYultgDsI/AAAAAAAABW0/U4n5FAYF6nE/s1600/DSCN4521.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
So on to my attempt. I randomly grabbed some fabric and roughly cut a big rectangle for the back then layered the 3 slightly smaller pieces on top. I used my walking foot and stitched through all the layers in a diagonal row pattern - trying to keep them roughly even without measuring or marking. The next one I make will absolutely have more real measuring and perhaps some marking. I then used my big shears to slash through the top 3 layers between the stitching lines - being careful to NOT cut the back piece (light purple w/ flowers). After I had the cutting finished, I folded/pressed and stitched the backing as a binding.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Then I tossed it into the wash with a few times with other laundry to give it the chenille effect.</div>

It came out great and I mailed it off (as a surprise) to my friend for her to use since she was the one who had given me the idea in the first place. :-)<br /><br />Now I need to make a few for myself.<br />
<br />Happy sewing!<br />

First up is a table runner I was making from scraps for myself. I love the Fall and leaves and have a thing lately about trying to use up what I have for fabric, so I decided to make myself a new table runner. I managed to get it finished just in time for Thanksgiving and brought it down to my mom's house for dinner and then brought it back home again. <br />
I took these photos after having washed/dried it so the quilting looks slightly different from when I first finished it.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-l_OwU12_iYE/UqnfyI0gn7I/AAAAAAAABO4/TcuIqwySegQ/s1600/DSCN4345.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-l_OwU12_iYE/UqnfyI0gn7I/AAAAAAAABO4/TcuIqwySegQ/s320/DSCN4345.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
The top is a linen-like center fabric with machine appliqued leaf shapes made from a bunch of different scraps I had on hand. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Fxvvvw3yoLU/Uqnf9dx1oGI/AAAAAAAABPA/-_xvYsSxReY/s1600/DSCN4346.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Fxvvvw3yoLU/Uqnf9dx1oGI/AAAAAAAABPA/-_xvYsSxReY/s320/DSCN4346.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The border is an all-over leaf pattern fabric and the back and binding is a different all-over leaf fabric. The quilting is a free-hand meander/stipple using King Tut Superior thread (purchased from <a href="http://www.sewthankful.com/Superior-Thread-King-Tut-Quilting-Thread-cones.html" target="_blank">Sew Thankful</a>) in a variegated cream/sand color tonal color.<br />
<br />
My second project was a challenge and a labor of love for a very special man.... my Dad. He rarely asks me to make things for him, but he just had a knee replacement done about a month ago and is dealing with feeling cold a lot right now. He had plenty of crocheted afghans thanks to my amazing mom, but also likes the feel of cuddly fleece sometimes. At Thanksgiving he asked me if it was possible to make a double layer fleece blanket with batting in between and quilt the entire thing. I told him I really wasn't sure if it was possible as fleece stretches and if you put in on the frame I wasn't sure how it would work.<br />
The more I thought about it my mind started considering possibilities, so I started doing some web searches to see if I could find any information on quilting fleece on a frame set up. Surprise! It can be done! I found some posts on various quilting sites and after doing some reading, decided to give it a shot. I figured if nothing else, I'd have something that could be used for one of the dogs or cats to sleep on.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-19YNxUthpKk/UqngcPQ1f3I/AAAAAAAABPI/0uMgJhaOf48/s1600/DSCN4335.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-19YNxUthpKk/UqngcPQ1f3I/AAAAAAAABPI/0uMgJhaOf48/s320/DSCN4335.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
I used 2 lengths of the same pattern fleece - an all over cardinal print that came from some of those tied blanket kits my Mom had bought a few years ago and never used. I loaded the backing piece of fleece on the frame rails and stitched the top edge of a piece of cotton batting to the top end of the backing. I then 'floated' the top piece of fleece over the batting. This just means I didn't pin it or stitch it down but let it rest freely on the top allowing me to smooth it as I quilted.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-BkuItrQI5eQ/UqngldYReGI/AAAAAAAABPQ/iSpf1DZTjK4/s1600/DSCN4337.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-BkuItrQI5eQ/UqngldYReGI/AAAAAAAABPQ/iSpf1DZTjK4/s320/DSCN4337.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-sZwbYA-N0dw/Uqng8FGynRI/AAAAAAAABPY/DkaTaFyCrEY/s1600/DSCN4338.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-sZwbYA-N0dw/Uqng8FGynRI/AAAAAAAABPY/DkaTaFyCrEY/s320/DSCN4338.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I used a pantograph of a simple leaf design and using the same variegated thread as above, I quilted edge to edge on the fleece. </div>
It was a bit challenging to keep things smooth and I did have to adjust the height of my rails toward the end as the the take-up roll was getting large! Two layers of fleece plus batting is a lot of bulk on a roll. Thankfully I'd loaded the fleece sideways otherwise I think I'd have had to take the whole thing off half-way and turn it upside down to finish since my quilting area is limited with my machine. In the end I was pleased with the way it came out and my Dad loved it when I gave it to him this week. It was exactly what he'd had in mind and I'm sure it'll be warm for him as he rests in his recliner chair.<br />

Now that we've re-arranged and taken care of some leveling issues, my practice pieces are getting better and I've found some fun (free!) pantograph patterns online. I've been printing, copying and taping into the lengths needed to practice. A pantograph is a printed pattern that I follow with a laser light as I guide the machine to stitch said pattern onto my quilt.<br />Below are some photos of my practice work. Sorry they are dark - it's hard to photograph cream tonal thread on white muslin fabric on an overcast day. Steve could do it better I'm sure but I was faking it.<br />

It's a New Joy Gold standard frame (fully adjustable from 47" to King size) with a Janome 1600P and Quilter's Cruise Control. God provided bountifully via a very nice couple from the next town who had purchased the entire set-up and never even used it once! The machine was still in the box with the styrofoam packaging! She wasn't going to use it and he wanted it out of the house so they gave us a phenomenal deal. I was just giddy with excitement and anticipation. <br />
It took a few days to get things set up and running, and then we opted to re-arrange and expand the frame to the 3/4 length that will accommodate pretty much everything and anything I will be making & quilting. <br />
<br />
Welcome to my newly upgraded sewing room!<br />

I've been busy practicing with the new machine and will post some photos of my practice work soon. Today I started piecing a baby boy quilt for the church ministry and am looking forward to being able to quilt it myself when it's ready.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ao2NVffyhUQ/UhN9pB_8GqI/AAAAAAAABEQ/8WLWQl6LR2k/s1600/DSCN3991.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ao2NVffyhUQ/UhN9pB_8GqI/AAAAAAAABEQ/8WLWQl6LR2k/s320/DSCN3991.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This first quilt had no pattern to work from - our ministry group is blessed by donations of fabric and sometimes you just have to make it up as you go. The animal square print was the inspiration fabric and the quilt was pieced from there - filling in from the church fabric stash to build the quilt around those blocks.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ZyjlVlluMI8/UhN9xCEFMmI/AAAAAAAABEY/NuGLnqXTl1M/s1600/DSCN3985.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ZyjlVlluMI8/UhN9xCEFMmI/AAAAAAAABEY/NuGLnqXTl1M/s320/DSCN3985.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It is backed in a cuddly flannel print and machine quilted using a walking-foot in a criss-cross wave pattern using a variegated thread for both the top & bobbin threads.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-G4GpUZBRZSQ/UhN-rHqU-pI/AAAAAAAABEo/3hzG6kIr_EA/s1600/DSCN3986.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-G4GpUZBRZSQ/UhN-rHqU-pI/AAAAAAAABEo/3hzG6kIr_EA/s320/DSCN3986.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The second quilt uses the pattern "yellow brick road" and again is made with prayer of thanksgiving from all donated fabrics. I especially loved 'fussy-cutting' the alphabet print fabric to anchor the top corner with the last initial of the family. This quilt also incorporates one of the same fabrics (blue swirl) from the other quilt - brothers sharing a link in even their quilts. The binding is pieced from all the fabrics used in the quilt top to add a scrappy flair to the finishing.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-r8PkzPSLOMI/UhN_btrWoiI/AAAAAAAABE0/AyL3GHvMMlI/s1600/DSCN3988.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-r8PkzPSLOMI/UhN_btrWoiI/AAAAAAAABE0/AyL3GHvMMlI/s320/DSCN3988.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This one is also backed in a flannel print and is machine quilted in a double line grid pattern.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-0hM6znE7Rus/UhOAF1OguyI/AAAAAAAABE8/HSFLW_qyF5g/s1600/DSCN3989.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-0hM6znE7Rus/UhOAF1OguyI/AAAAAAAABE8/HSFLW_qyF5g/s320/DSCN3989.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-l9Qn0fhQVvI/UhOCl0OzjbI/AAAAAAAABFI/_gQyKgv309k/s1600/DSCN3997.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-l9Qn0fhQVvI/UhOCl0OzjbI/AAAAAAAABFI/_gQyKgv309k/s320/DSCN3997.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Baby quilts are so much fun! They work up fairly quickly and it is a tremendous blessing to be able to pray for the babies and their families as they are stitched together with Christ's love.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
It is our prayer that each child will feel the love of Jesus surrounding them.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Blessings,</div>

Thanks to a lovely friend, I have a new pillow for the sun porch. My friend Emily gave me several pre-cut quilt block kits that she decided not to use. This one was an applique' block that I decided would look great as a pillow on the porch. I machine quilted the block onto a piece of muslin (I'm learning to machine quilt on my standard machine) and then used a random fat-quarter of mottled blue for the back to create the pillow.<br /><br />

This makes me happy and I think it is pretty as well as functional. Now to wait for Steve to test it out and let me know if he thinks it will help with afternoon naps. :-)</div>

I thought I'd toss up a post. <br />
<br />
We moved in March out to "the country"... a very small town in the Monadnock Region of New Hampshire. It is our dream and we are very blessed to be where we are, especially as we really saw God's hand in the entire process.<br />
In the run-up to the move, all my sewing stuff was packed right away and put into storage. This was due to time/space issues - not the quantum physics kind - the kind where I have WAY TOO MUCH stuff and it had to be put into storage in order to show our house and sell it.<br />
Now that we've settled in a bit and have crossed off a few major projects in our new home, I'm <em>finally</em> unpacking my sewing things and all my fabric.<br />
I am beyond thrilled to have an entire room for my sewing here - my very own sewing room!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-oH2qC-WodNo/UbpSschTgaI/AAAAAAAAA78/7gfyKUtLAJM/s1600/DSCN3635.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-oH2qC-WodNo/UbpSschTgaI/AAAAAAAAA78/7gfyKUtLAJM/s320/DSCN3635.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-fIqPHFZKHVk/UbpS1-SpNMI/AAAAAAAAA8E/UZ6Fl2dnskA/s1600/DSCN3632.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-fIqPHFZKHVk/UbpS1-SpNMI/AAAAAAAAA8E/UZ6Fl2dnskA/s320/DSCN3632.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
These are photos just after the room was freshly painted and the new wood floor installed.<br />
At the moment I'm in the midst of unpacking and washing all the fabric from the 6 giant cardboard boxes, 4 huge plastic totes, several miscellaneous drawer container units and figuring out where things will go in my new space. Steve has mounted adjustable wire shelving in the closet for me and I'm sure that everything will have to be re-arranged 973 times before I'm happy with the arrangement and where things are set up. But it is progress!<br /><br />And, I've had the blessing of being able to work on some quilt ministry projects during the time that B is practicing with the worship team at church, so I'm being productive a little bit on that front. I am almost finished with the hand-quilting on a baby-girl quilt, have binding to do on another girl quilt, have begun work on a baby-boy/generic quilt, and am part way into final piecing of a top for a scrappy lap size quilt that may be used as a ministry fund-raiser or for some other purpose.<br />
<br />
Blessings on the sewing journey ~ I hope to post some finished projects before too long.<br />

This is the last quilt completely made in Merrimack. Prayerfully it won't be my last ever quilt! <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-qFLs5CjM0E0/URzkoIXHDkI/AAAAAAAAAyY/0_d5dvKLsRs/s1600/Flannel+Sampler.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-qFLs5CjM0E0/URzkoIXHDkI/AAAAAAAAAyY/0_d5dvKLsRs/s320/Flannel+Sampler.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I started this project months ago. It covers the top of the queen size bed nicely and is soft & snuggly. Grace approves heartily and has staked her claim on top of it at every chance she gets.<br />
<br />
I used mostly left-over fabric from another big flannel quilt project made for a dear friend's daughter. There has never been a sampler quilt before and this was interesting for me. For no reason I chose 10" blocks and just started with whatever sized scraps I had and even invented a few blocks along the way. Some are a bit wonky to fit, but it works. There was even a bit of adventure in the first ever drunkard's path block as I'd not attempted rounded seams before now. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-zy-7svgdgUI/URzlXK4r4QI/AAAAAAAAAyk/JBryPhc7Vm4/s1600/DSCN3328.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-zy-7svgdgUI/URzlXK4r4QI/AAAAAAAAAyk/JBryPhc7Vm4/s320/DSCN3328.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The back is the floral print flannel that is in the front as well. The sashing is a cream tonal flannel and the border is the green tonal flannel. Machine pieced, hand tied, and binding finish is done by hand. Finished on 2/11/2013. My quilt label will be added once we move and I find the box that they are packed in. :-)<br />
<br />
Blessings,<br />

And I worked on it, and I worked on it and I worked on it. It was the perfect sized project to take on long car trips or work on when I was sitting for a few hours waiting for a child someplace. But the project took much longer than I'd anticipated.<br />
This month I FINALLY finished it and was able to surprise her with it. <br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The background is pieced cotton and all the sheep and flowers are wool and are hand-appliqued in layers. I've never done a project like this before and was very pleased with the over-all look when it was finished. I hand quilted around the sheep and around the red border then backed the project with a flannel plaid and added a hanging sleeve along the top edge.</div>

She was working along and hit a few snags, finally encountering the inevitable frustration of sewing... meaning... the dreaded need for a seam ripper. So she handed the project off to me with a smile. I was happy to take it off her hands and the timing was just perfect!<br />
I took some things apart, swapped a few rows around, added some borders and merrily took advantage of having a quilt top done and handy to take to a class using a computerized long-arm quilting machine.<br />
Last Friday I headed over to <a href="http://bnpquilts.com/">Bits-n-Pieces Quilt Shoppe</a> in Pelham, NH with Emily's quilt top in hand. I had chosen a light cream marbled flannel for the backing and cotton batting so it would be easy wash-n-dry for her family to use. She has boys and I know how that story goes and wanted to be sure they could use it with no worries.<br />

Finished quilt! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: left;">
I used the paisley print for the binding and managed to get all the handwork done in just 3 days - which may be a new record for me. :-) I was anxious to finish so I could give it back to Emily - which I did today and she was SO surprised! The look on her face was such a mixture of joy & surprise... a complete and total gift/blessing for ME! <br />One of the dearest gifts God has granted me in this life is to be able to make/give useful things. I sew, I bake bread - nothing earth shattering but these are things that make me happy and seem to be blessings to others at times. I love that! </div>
